Rumor: Apple planning an inexpensive iPad for 2018

According to DigiTimes Research, Apple is planning a 9.7-inch iPad for next year that will cost about $259.

Quoting unnamed “sources from related upstream suppliers,” the research group says that the tablet will be designed to “attract more demand from price-oriented consumers, allowing Apple to maintain its present 10 million-unit tablet shipments a quarter.”

Chances the rumor is true, per the Sellers Research Group (that’s me): 50%. The current (non-Pro) iPad starts at $329; I can’t see Apple lowering the price below $299.
