Rumor: Apple may buy the content library of an Indian media company

The Eros Group, an Indian movie production house, may sell its entire content library to Apple, reports Reuters , quoting unnamed sources. The article adds that Amazon and Netflix are also considering a bid.

The Economic Times’ claim the deal could top $1 billion; Reuters sources expect a far lower amount, saying that “Apple was unlikely to splurge on Indian content.” If the tech giant does scoop up Eros, it would be competing with Netflix’s targeted push into the Indian media market.

The Eros Group is a motion picture production and distribution company, based in Mumbai. Founded by Arjan Lulla in 1977 it’s considered as one of the leading production and distribution company in India. The company co-produces, acquires and distributes Indian language films in multiple formats worldwide, including theatrical, television syndication and digital platforms.
