Rumor: Apple looks to buy self-driving shuttle company

Let the Apple Car rumors pick up speed. A new rumor says the tech giant is considering buying Drive.ai, a self-driving shuttle company.

According to the latter’s website the company uses artificial intelligence “to create self-driving transportation that improve the state of mobility today.” It offers turnkey mobility solutions with self-driving cars for partners and communities.

Drive.ai can purportedly scale to new cities and use different use cases quickly and successfully. The company is base din Mountain View, California.

The Information claims Apple is structuring the deal as an “acqui-hire,” which could result in dozens of Drive.ai engineers ending up at Apple. The self-driving car company, which has been running small pilot programs of its prototype shuttles in Arlington, Texas, began seeking buyers for the company as early as February, the article adds.
