Rumor: Apple designing its own antenna for 5G iPhones

Apple is designing its own antenna for this year’s 5G-enabled iPhone, according to Fast Company.

The tech giant didn’t like the QTM 525 millimeter-wave antenna module offered to it by Qualcomm because it doesn’t fit into the company’s idea of a sleek industrial design, the report says quoting an unnamed “source with knowledge of Apple’s plans.” That said, the article adds that Apple typically designs on several tracks, and it’s concurrently working on another design that uses both the Qualcomm modem and antenna.

The iPhone maker is expected to debut iPhone and iPad Pro models this fall that are 5G-enabled.
