Rumor: Apple branded over-the-ear headphones coming in the second half of the year

Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman has reiterated that Apple is planning its own over-ear headphones for as early as the second half of this year. Reportedly:

  • ° The tech giant is working on noise-canceling, over-ear headphones “that rival headsets from market leaders like Bose and even the company’s own Beats by Dre brand.”

  • ° Apple plans to launch the headphones as early as the end of this year, but has faced development challenges that might push back the release.

  • ° It’s possible Apple will redesign the headphones again before launch, or scrap the project altogether.

Chances the rumor is true, per the Sellers Research Group (that’s me): 50%. Unless….

Apple simply abandons the Beats trademark/logo and puts its own brand on all the audio products. Which makes sense to me. I don’t see the logic in having Apple-branded AND Beats-branded over-the-ear headphones since Apple owns Beats.
