Red Clock for iPhone is a fine, if simple, alarm clock/weather app

By Frank Petrie

Red Clock is a simply designed desk clock app. It is more accurately an all-in-one alarm clock and weather app. You have access to settings for over a dozen themes. The $1.99 app can viewed in either portrait or landscape. It has an “Info Bar” along the bottom that allows you to finely tailor any of your settings.

The clock has a night mode that is easily accessible by swiping down the screen. Or you can permanently set it from within settings. It can be set to either 12 hour or 24 hour mode. You can add seconds to the display, if you so desire.

I found the clock mode, while being pleasantly minimalist, to be something probably already in your arsenal. You can set the font from a regular, thin Helvetica to a purportedly bold version. But to be honest, I found the difference to be negligible.

As a weather app. while including some easily customizable features from whether you view the temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit, to ‘Feels Like,’ UV Index, Humidity and others. What also may be of interest to some is that you can display wind speed and direction. Unfortunately, in keeping with the minimalist design, there’s no radar component. The weather part of this app reminded me distinctly of Apple’s weather app. And I think that we have all either put that one out to pasture or supplemented it with at least one other app.

As for the alarm clock, you probably have one that offers the same functionality already.

So, briefly, while this app delivers on its promises, you most likely already own apps that either match or out-do this app. Still, if you’re needs are simple and you’re looking to prune your number of apps, this will fit your bill.
