Another day, another lawsuit. Qualcomm has filed a complaint against Foxconn Technology, Pegatron, Wistron, and Compal — all Apple contract manufacturers for making iPhones— for not paying royalties, reports Reuters.
“While not disputing their contractual obligations to pay for the use of Qualcomm’s inventions, the manufacturers say they must follow Apple’s instructions not to pay,” Qualcomm said in a statement.
Per Reuters, Apple has agreed to indemnify the manufacturers for any damages resulting from breaching their agreements with Qualcomm, the chipmaker said in the complaint filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of California.
Apple has sued Qualcomm, the world’s dominant supplier of baseband processors, alleging the chip supplier demanded unfair terms for its technology. And in January the Federal Trade Commission filed a complaint in federal district court charging Qualcomm Inc. with using anticompetitive tactics to maintain its monopoly in the supply of a key semiconductor device used in cell phones and other consumer products. However, Qualcomm denies the allegations.
