Progress report: SSL up and running, new comments tool coming today

Just to give you all a progress report…we made some significant changes to our DNS settings last night and we’re now running SSL for end-to-end encryption across the board. The many changes appear to have happened without too much downtime, although our Deals Shop was down for part of the morning.

Readers should see slightly faster loading of all AWT pages now; previously, we had DNS settings and more scattered around three different registrars and providers, but that’s down to one location at this time.

So, about the comments…

Sadly, although one of our readers was kind enough to send a link to a web page that gave instructions on how to move comments from Squarespace’s internal comment system to Disqus, it didn’t work. We were only seeing comments from February 9, 2015 through December 9, 2015, and there were also issues with some posts written by bloggers who are no longer writing for AWT.

This afternoon, we’ll “push the button” and bring up Disqus, killing off all of the old comments in the process. We regret that this has to happen, but the benefits of Disqus far outweigh the loss of our seldom-used Squarespace comments solution.

Thanks for putting up with this whirlwind of changes!
