Pro Pinball on iOS: great pinball with no quarters needed

If you fancy yourself a pinball wizard, you can give the game a whirl on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with Pro Pinball, which is based on the classic pinball series from the ‘90s.

The game — available in $2.99 and $6.99 versions at the Apple App Store — has been completely redeveloped for iOS by the original developers. Whether you’re new to Pro Pinball or fondly remember the originals (which were were available on the Mac, PC, PlayStation, Sega Saturn and Sega Dreamcast), you’ll have a blast manipulating the virtual steel balls in this pinball machine game.

Pro Pinball  boasts gorgeous, photo realistic graphics. You can control the ambient light level to play in the dark with “ultra dynamic” lighting effects. Gameplay is also varied with options such as Multiballs, Wizard Modes, Video Modes, Spinners, Jet Bumpers, Magnets, Drop Targets and more.

The $6.99 “deluxe” version of Pro Pinball has, of course, some features the standard, $2.99 version doesn’t. The Operator’s Menu lets you customize and experiment with table designs. A Glass-Off Mode lets you take the virtual glass off the table and push the balls around the table with your finger.

My biggest complaint: sometimes the game would often tell me I’d “tilted” the game and present me with this snide message: “Don’t they have pinball in your time?” Except that I was playing it on my iPad Air 2, which was laying flat on my desk. I wasn’t tilting!!

That said, if you can avoid tilting, and you enjoy pinball, you’ll love Pro Pinball.
