President of Turkey: we should switch from iPhones to Samsung devices

The president of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan has told his people to stop buying American electronics and encouraging them to switch from iPhones to Samsung devices.

Why? According to the Financial Times (a subscription is required) it’s because the Trump administration has increased tariffs on Turkish metal exports and is sanctioning two Turkish ministers for the handling of a U.S. pastor’s terrorism trial. Erdogan has also promoted the Venus phone by Vestel, a local Turkish smartphone manufacturer. The iPhone has about 15% of the smartphone market in Turkey.
