Notable apps and updates, Oct. 14-19

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are this week’s picks.

macOS

publicspace has debuted version 11 of A Better Finder Rename, an update of their batch file renaming solution for macOS. 

It’s a tool that caters for a range of file renaming tasks encountered by the creative professional. Version 11 introduces file filtering, auto-increment counters and meta-data, presets and lexical case conversion improvements.

Version 11 is a free upgrade for customers who purchased A Better Finder Rename after the Jan. 1, 2019, or who own a forever upgrade. Discounted upgrade prices are available from the public space web store and start at $12.95 for a single user license. A Better Finder Rename 11 requires macOS 10.10 or higher.

Ben Software has released SecuritySpy 5.1, an update to the multi-camera video surveillance software for the Mac. 

The software provides smart motion detection powered by AI, flexible recording, and remote monitoring. Version 5.1 adds macOS 10.15 Catalina support, Metal-accelerated video display, and web-based Mac screen control.

Pricing depends on the number of cameras used, ranging from approximately $40 for a single-camera license to $890 for an unlimited-camera license. SecuritySpy 5.1 requires macOS 10.13 or higher. A demo is available for download.

Scorpion Research has rolled out Scorpion BarCode 3.10, an update to its barcode creation software for macOS. The upgrade is ready for macOS Catalina.

The software helps users create and print l major barcode symbologies in EPS, PDF, PNG, or TIFF file formats. You can integrate barcodes into popular database, spreadsheet and word processor applications. A command line version is also provided to build scripted solutions. 

Scorpion Barcode 3.10 works with macOS 10.8 or later and costs approximately $30. A demo is available for download.
