Notable apps and updates: May 27

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.

macOS

MeisterApps has launched VideoMeister, a video player designed to make it easier for Mac users to play video files on a smart TV.

The app supports such video codecs as H264, H265, VP8 and VP9 and audio codecs such as AAC, AC3 and MP3. This allows users to enjoy all available video formats, including MP4, M4V, MOV, AVI and MKV, without using external hardware.

VideoMeister Requiem macOS 10.13 or later. It can be downloaded from the Mac App Store. Upon installation, VideoMeister the app will search automatically for available smart TVs within the local network. Users can simply select their video file in the app and it will be displayed on the bigger screen of the Smart TV.

Users can try VideoMeister for free for five minutes. After this free trial period, you can choose between different types of subscription: monthly (US$4.99) or annually ($12.99). You can also opt for a one-time purchase, which costs $22.99.

iPadOS

The Zoom app for iOS has updated with support for the new Center Stage feature on the 2021 iPad Pros. Apple says Center Stage is a new experience for video calls. It uses the much larger field of view on the new front camera and the machine learning capabilities of M1 to recognize and keep users centered in the frame.

As users move around, Center Stage automatically pans to keep them in the shot. When others join in, the camera detects them too, and zooms out to fit everyone into the view and make sure they are part of the conversation.
