Notable apps and app updates for Sept. 19, 2017

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.

iOS Apps/Updates

Button Software Technology has introduced Becolor 1.0. It’s a free coloring app targeted to adults. Becolor has more than 100 water colors, over 40 preset styles, and categories including art, fantasy, girls, nature, and much more with endless possibilities.

macOS Apps/Updates

Rogue Amoeba has updated Fission, its macOS audio editor. Version 2.4 brings revamped support for creating custom ringtones for use on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

iTunes 12.7 removed several features, including support for managing and syncing custom tones. This feature removal broke functionality in several current apps, including Apple’s own GarageBand app, as well as older versions of Fission. However, with Fission 2.4, users can once again save custom tones for use on iOS devices.

Fission runs on macOS and higher, with a free fully-functional trial available for download. While in trial mode, the quality of saved files is intentionally degraded via a series of fades in the audio. The unrestricted full version can be purchased for $29.

TunesKit Software has announced DRM Media Converter for Mac 3.5.1, an update to its DRM removal product for the Mac. This version adds support for iTunes 12.7 on macOS 10.12 and lower.

DRM Media Converter was designed to losslessly remove DRM encryption from iTunes movie purchases and rentals, TV episodes, and music videos by converting the protected M4V videos to DRM-free formats, including MP4, M4V, MOV, AVI, FLV, MP3, AAC, and more.

DRM Media Converter requires macOS 10.8 or higher. It cost $44.95; a demo is available

Moth Software has revved Mail Archiver X, its email companion app for macOS, to version 4.1. The app allows consolidation, archiving, and permanent storage of emails.

Emails may be saved in the application’s native database format, or in Evernote, Filemaker, PDF, mbox, or Text. Mail Archiver X 4.1 adds support for directly archiving to Evernote.

Mail Archiver X 4.1 costs $39.95 and and available directly from Moth Software. A free, fully-functional, 12-day trial version is available.

B-Eng has rolled out File Manager Pro 1.7.1, an update to their dual panel file manager for the Mac.

Along with basic functions like copying and moving files and directories, the tool allows you to compress and uncompress files, compare files and folders, synching files and directories and manipulating content of folders and files from an interactive, graphical overview. Version 1.7. introduces encryption abilities.

File Manager Pro 1.7.1 require macOS 10.11 or higher and costs $18.99. It’s available at the Mac App Store.

Econ Technologies has upgraded ChronoSync, its backup utility for the Mac, to version 4.8. “Assistants” now guide you through the process of configuring a Synchronizer Task. This lets you run syncs and backups automatically when files are changed

ChronoSync 4.8 — a free update for registered users — also adds a “Validate” step to check backed up data and verify the integrity not only of the file contents, but all file attributes and metadata associated with the files. You can confirm backups down to every last detail and get a report of anything that might be out-of-sync.

ChronoSync costs $49.99. Its $14.99 companion app, ChronoAgent, allows any Mac to accept direct, secure connections from any ChronoSync Mac or any InterConneX iOS device to access or transfer data. Demos are available for download.

ChronoMonitor is an iPhone app that monitors Macs running ChronoSync or ChronoAgent. It’s available in the Apple App Store for $3.99.
