Notable apps and app updates for Oct. 3, 2016

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.

iOS Apps/Updates

Chris Patterson has introduced IMMaterial 1.0, a free Messages app for iOS 10. With it anyone can create custom stickers for iOS 10 Messages from any of the over 3,000 icons included in web fonts, including Google Material Icons, Font Awesome, Iconic Icons, and more.

Virtual Halo has debuted a personal safety app for the Apple Watch and iPhone that alerts your ICE (in case of emergency) contacts to your whereabouts and circumstances at the press of a button. Designed for travelers, parents and children, hikers, thrill-seekers, expecting mothers, seniors and more, the free app provides a variety of modules and features that improve the safety for its users.

macOS Apps/Updates

SchwanSongs has launched Ask Fortuna 1.0, a fortune-generator for the Mac. It creates almost-random sayings and prescient prognostications.

According to the folks at SchwanSongs, these aren’t plagiarized lists of old quotes, nor are they completely random sentences of computer-speak; They are something in between.

Ask Fortuna requires macOS 10.8 or later and costs $2.99 (with additional in-app purchases available). It’s available at the Mac App Store in the Entertainment category.

Zevrix Solutions has released BatchOutput PDF 2.2.23, a compatibility update to its solution to automate PDF printing with watched hot folders on Mac.

Users only need to drop PDF files into hot folders and they’ll be printed automatically using the linked output preset. Version 2.2.23 makes BatchOutput PDF compatible with the macOS Sierra.

BatchOutput PDF can be purchased from the Zevrix website for $24.95; there’s a server version for $99.95, as well as from the Mac App Store and authorized resellers. The 2.2.33 update is free for licensed users of version 2. A demo is available for download. BatchOutput PDF supports macOS 10.5 and higher.
