Notable apps and app updates for Oct. 20, 2017

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.

iOS Apps/Updates

Ultralab Apps has introduced Plans! Your Perfect Feed 1.0. The free (for a limited time) app is designed to improve the management of an Instagram account with a drag ‘n drop feature, scheduling and captioning individual posts, previews of the overall look of the feed way in advance, and more.

Vito Technology has launched Easy Baby Monitor 1.0. It’s a $2.99 video and audio app that allows you to have awareness of your sleeping baby from anywhere.

Full Fat has debuted Spin a Zoo 1.2. It’s a free game about collecting animals from around the world and building a zoo filled with adorable animals, all of which are delivered by train. Spin the train, and complete your animal collection. Look after your animals with food and toys, build and manage your zoo. Expand your horizons. Travel around the world, meeting furry friends from across the globe in an original zoo building simulation.

macOS Apps/Updates

DEVONtechnologies has updated all editions of its intelligent information and document manager DEVONthink for Mac with sync enhancements and performance improvements.  They’re compatible with macOS 10 and higher.

Version 2.9.16 allows to import multiple databases from a remote location at the same time, cleans up sync locations more aggressively, and makes the synchronization more efficient. Finally the updates bring compatibility fixes for macOS High Sierra. They’re free and recommended for all users.

All editions can be downloaded and be test-driven for free before they need to be licensed. DEVONthink Personal as well as all editions of DEVONagent are also available in the Mac App Store; DEVONthink can be purchased in bundles with DEVONagent at bundle prices in DEVONtechnologies’ online shop.

Cisdem (www.cisdem.com) has released Cisdem Data Recovery 4.2.0, an update of their data recover software for macOS that recovers different file types from different devices. The new version is optimized for macOS High Sierra and supports the APFS file system.

A single user license for Cisdem Data Recovery is $49.99. A demo is available for download.

Allegorithmic has released an update for Substance Designer, a material authoring tool for macOS and Windows.

Seven new noises and filters have been added to ease the creation of complex shapes and patterns, while new support for X-Rite’s Appearance Exchange Format (AxF) offers a way to author custom materials for design applications. AxF is a format that enables the communication of all aspects of a physical material’s appearance – color, texture, refraction, translucency, gloss, special effects and reflection properties – in a single, editable file. Once uploaded into Substance Designer, users will be able to add procedural edits to this data, producing custom materials with high degrees of accuracy and photorealism.

The update to Substance Designer is available free cost to current subscribers. Following the trial period, individual users will be able to subscribe to the Indie or Pro plans. Subscriptions to Substance Indie cost $19.90/month; Pro plans cost $99.90/month. Substance Designer is also available for individual-license purchase, which includes 12 months of maintenance. Enterprise and education pricing is available upon request. Students and teachers can request a license at no cost.
