Notable apps and app updates for May 25, 2016

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.

Mac OS X Apps/Updates

Adeptshare has announced PDF Decrypter Pro 1.0 for Mac OS X. It’s a utility designed to instantly decrypt password protected PDF files.

Once decrypted, the PDF file can be edited, printed, and have text and graphics selected and copied into other documents. Users can also edit any annotations and form fields. The decrypted PDF file can be edited in any PDF editor. All versions of Adobe Acrobat are supported, but Acrobat isn’t required for its operation.

PDF Decrypter Pro offers easy drag and drop file selection — or users can select multiple files via the cleanly designed file selection interface. Once files have been selected for decryption, a click of the button immediately begins the decryption process. Users can track the decryption process, which is displayed in the Results Column.

PDF Decrypter Pro requires OS X 10.6.6 or later. It costs $29.99 and is available worldwide through the Mac App Store in the Utilities category. It is also available through the PDF Decrypter website.

Ergonis Software has released PopChar X 7.5, an improved version of the OS X (10.6 or newer) tool for finding and inserting special characters and exploring fonts.

With PopChar, thousands of special characters are only a few clicks away. Version X 7.5 adds support for the combined emoji characters, comes with an improved font info view, and offers further enhancements to make insertion of special characters easier than ever.

PopChar X can be purchased at the Ergonis Software website. The upgrade to PopChar X 7.5 is free for anyone who owns a license for PopChar X 7 or purchased a license for PopChar X 6 on or after March 1, 2014. Upgrade paths are available for customers who purchased their license before that date. For information about purchases, including enterprise licenses, volume discounts, and upgrade pricing offers, see the company’s web site.

iOS Apps/Updates for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Tomer Arkin has debuted Guess the Animal 1.0. In the free game, players reveal the tiles and guess the animal behind it. A large range of animals such as dogs, rabbits, fish, birds, insects and many more critters are included.

Bubble Jungle is a new 3D platformer for iOS and OS X. It purportedly provides a 15 hours of leapy fun inspired by Super Mario and Bubble Bobble though. You play as the chameleon Chuck who has to battle his way to the end of a bunch of levels in a variety of zany worlds, trapping enemies in bubbles and popping them to eat fruit along the way. The game is completely multiplayer, and playable by up to four people at once in cross-platform. It’s available at the Apple App Store and the Mac App Store. The iOS version is free; the Mac version costs $1.99.
