Notable apps and app updates for March 1, 2017

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.

iOS Apps/Updates

PlayToddlers has launched Sweet Home Stories 1.0. The free educational doll house game allows children aged 2 to 8 to join a family of six characters in their day-to-day life at their house. Every room is an exploring adventure itself, filled with hundreds of interactive objects and dozens of activities.

macOS Apps/Updates

BinaryNights has released Forklift 3.0, an update to their file manager and file transfer utility for macOS (10.11 and higher). The tool allows Mac users to connect and manage their files via FTP, SFTP, WebDAV and more.

Forklift offers a way to remotely sync, preview, and edit files. Version 3.0 has been completely rewritten in Swift. The new version offers two-way sync, dark mode, remote editing, improved search functionality, and more.

Forklift 3.0 is usually $29.95 for a single-user license; however, for a limited time, BinaryNights is offering it for $19.95. A family license is available for $29.95 (usually $49.95) and a small business license is available for $49.95 (usually $99.95) during the promotion. Discounted upgrades are also available to owners of previous versions of Forklift. A demo is available for download.

Maintain has served up Cocktail 10.3 (Sierra Edition), a new edition of Cocktail for users running macOS Sierra. It’s a general purpose utility that lets users clean, repair and optimize their Macs.

The new version adds macOS Sierra 10.12.4 compatibility, the ability to change default page zoom for Safari, ability to disable animation when hiding or showing Dock and ability to quit Finder. It also contains improvements on the “Delete localization files” procedure.

Cocktail costs $19 for a single user license and available for purchase from the Maintain website. When unregistered, Cocktail runs in demo mode and will expire after the tenth launch.
