Notable apps and app updates for June 15, 2018

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.

macOS Apps/Updates

Maintain has served up Cocktail 11.5 (High Sierra Edition), a new edition of Cocktail for users running macOS High Sierra.

It’s a general purpose utility for macOS that lets users clean, repair and optimize their Macs. Version 11.6 adds the ability to enforce critical (XProtect and Gatekeeper) security updates. It also adds compatibility with macOS High Sierra 10.13.5 and contains many under-the-hood optimizations for faster and more reliable performance as well as other improvements.

Cocktail costs $19 for a single user license and available for purchase from the Maintain website. When unregistered, Cocktail runs in demo mode and will expire after the tenth launch.

MacXDVD has announced MacX DVD Ripper Pro 6.0, an upgrade to the DVD ripper.

The utility can rip protected/homemade DVDs to any format. Version 6.0 offers full support for 64-bit macOS 10.14 Mojave and later.

MacX DVD Ripper Pro is priced at $67.95 for a single copy. However, for a limited time, it’s 70% off together with the fastest 4K video converter and one-click iPhone data manager during MacXDVD Software’s 8th Anniversary Special Offer.

ProjectWizards has conjured up Merlin Project 5, the fifth generation update to their project-management software for macOS.

Merlin offers a variety of options to help you plan, take control, collaborate and complete your project successfully. The latest version features a new Kanban Board, Resource Pool, Groupings, a new style editor, and revised user interface.

Merlin Project 5 is available as a subscription at a reduced price for a limited time. You can subscribe directly in the app for $149 per year, including all future updates. Merlin Project 4 customers pay $99 per year if they take out a subscription by Dec.31, 2018.

Merlin Project 4 users who have recently purchased the software can use the new version for free for up to 18 months, depending on the date of purchase. A 30-day trial version of Merlin Project 5 can be downloaded from ProjectWizards online.

iOS Apps/Updates

LastThink has debuted Catchit Road – Speed Control 1.0. This GPS mapquest-based road app will purportedly notify you about anything happening on the road after you type in the direction you’re going. Catchit Road – Speed Control is free, but does offer in-app purchases.
