Notable apps and app updates for Dec. 19, 2017

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.

iOS Apps/Updates

Adveractive and Hoyt Designs have launched Just 2 Words Plus. It’s a free picture word puzzle app for the fans of Hoyt’s word puzzles and brain teasers. The pictures are the clues and every puzzle’s answer is just two words – a common pairing (“BROWNIE POINTS”), a famous person’s name (“TAYLOR SWIFT”), or a fun combination.

macOS Apps/Updates

Maintain has served up Cocktail 11.2 (High Sierra Edition), a new edition of Cocktail for users running macOS High Sierra.

It’s a general purpose utility for macOS that lets users clean, repair and optimize their Macs. The new version adds the ability to clear boot caches. It also improves the “Clear system caches” procedure; the “Perform essential system maintenance” procedure, and the     “Clear Apple system logs and diagnostic messages” procedure.

Cocktail costs $19 for a single user license and available for purchase from the Maintain website. When unregistered, Cocktail runs in demo mode and will expire after the tenth launch.

Paragon Software has updated Microsoft NTFS for Mac by Paragon Software, its software utility that grants ultra-fast, transparent read/write access to Windows-formatted NTFS hard drives, SSDs, and thumb drives under macOS.

The upgrade delivers improved support for macOS 10.13 High Sierra. macOS High Sierra is designed to be secure by default and includes several architectural changes, including a new file system and user-approved, third-party kernel extensions. Microsoft NTFS for Mac by Paragon Software now provides full support for Secure Kernel Extension Loading, which enables users to install the application and evaluate its benefits without any additional interaction with System Preferences.

For users of Microsoft NTFS for Mac by Paragon Software, the upgrade is available at no charge. Microsoft NTFS for Mac by Paragon Software is available for download for $19.99.
