Notable apps and app updates for Aug. 1, 2017

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.

iOS Apps/Updates

NextRadio is a new, free mobile app that unlocks smartphones’ FM chips for hyperlocal radio streaming. It sports features such as: station browsing by genre and location, album art displays for music via the interactive “Live Guide, and more so users can enjoy local audio content in real-time.

Ovilex Soft has rolled out Driving School 2017. It’s a free driving simulator that features over 100 exciting vehicles to unlock, more than 15 maps to explore, and 80 increasingly challenging levels to experience. Features include realistic controls, lifelike engine sounds, next-gen weather conditions, single and multi-player game modes, and more.

Hirshmania! has introduced TV Yapp 1.0.9. The free social networking/chat app was developed for people who love talking about TV but hate spoilers. Users can invite their friends to discuss an episode of a TV show and only those who have seen the episode will receive notifications and messages. Once users have seen the episode they can then enter the chat room and not miss out on what was already said.

macOS Apps/Updates

Zevrix Solutions has announced LinkOptimizer 5.1.3, a feature update to company’s image processing automation solution for Adobe InDesign.

LinkOptimizer helps users reduce InDesign link size automatically by scaling and cropping images to their InDesign dimensions while reducing their resolution to the desired target. Version 5.1.3 lets users batch process InDesign files from the entire subfolder tree of the selected folder, and introduces improvements in user experience and performance.

LinkOptimizer can be purchased from the Zevrix website for $259.95 (there’s a “lite” version for $179.95) as well as from Adobe Exchange and authorized resellers. A demo is available for download. The update is free for LinkOptimizer 5.x users and $130 to upgrade from previous versions. LinkOptimizer requires macOS 10.7-10.12 and Adobe InDesign / Photoshop CS5-CC 2017.
