News round-up: Apple slices product prices in China (and more)

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, at the end of each week day, we’ll offer this wrap-up of news items you should check out.

Apple has cut prices on iPhones, iPads, Macs, and AirPods in China by nearly 6%, reports CNET. The price cuts come as Apple has seen sales drop in China, leading to lower-than-expected revenue in the fourth quarter of 2018.

Apple supplier Japan Display, plans to raise as much as $990 million in new financing as early as this week, sending shares of the struggling manufacturer sharply higher, according to Reuters.

Apple really, really wanted to secure deals with The Washington Post or The New York Times for Apple News+, but couldn’t persuade ‘em to sign up despite a “vigorous courtship,” says Vanity Fair

Per the Telegraph,  Autonomy saw a $4 million contract with Apple unravel ahead of its $11 billion sale to Hewlett Packard (HP), according to court documents. The claim was made by HP during a £4 billion fraud trial against Autonomy founder Mike Lynch, the biggest case of its kind in UK legal history.

On the new MacVoices, the Road to Macstock takes a social turn in a conversation with Barry Fulk, the organizer of the Midwest Mac Mingle. This year, Barry will not only be putting together the Friday and Saturday night actives for the event, but also some pre-and post Macstock activities for those who will be in Chicago longer and want a taste of the town. Barry outlines some of the options he is considering, including a visit to a major league baseball park.
