News round-up: AirPods manufacturing delay, NYPD goes iPhone, more

Nikkei Asian Review reports that Apple’s three primary AirPods manufacturers, Luxshare, Goertek, and Inventec, have all halted AirPods production, due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

The New York City Police Department is ditching is handwritten memo books for a digital version — an app on officers’ department-issued iPhones, reports The New York Times.

CNBC says about 60 health systems are siding with Epic CEO Judy Faulkner, who is urging hospitals and clinics to take a stand against the Department of Health and Human Services rules designed to make it easier to share medical records data with patients and apps. Tech companies like Apple, Alphabet and Microsoft have taken the opposite stance.

In a report from the Financial Times (a subscription is required to read the entire article), a letter signed by 129 non-profits, think tanks, and academics urge Facebook to reconsider encrypting its apps.

Dolby Atmos support for the newly released Apple TV app and AirPlay 2 on select LG smart TVs is coming in a software update “later this year,” an LG spokesperson has confirmed to FlatpanelsHD.com

Apple has posted a new video on its YouTube channel showcasing the iPhone 11’s Night Mode capabilities.

As noted by AppleInsider, in a new report on mineral sourcing, Apple said 18 smelters and refiners that were not willing to participate in third-party audits were removed from its supply chain in 2019, resulting in a 100% audit participation rate for the fifth consecutive year.
