News items you should check out: Nov. 22

Since I can’t cover everything, I like to offer a daily roundup of must-read articles from some other great websites.

° From Twitter: Security researchers Tommy Mysk and Talal Haj Bakry have found that Apple’s device analytics data includes an ID called “dsId,” which stands for Directory Services Identifier. The analysis found that the dsId identifier is unique to every iCloud account and can be linked directly to a specific user, including their name, date of birth, email, and associated information stored on ‌iCloud‌.

° From Wired: Corellium, a cybersecurity startup that sells phone-virtualization software for catching security bugs, offered or sold its tools to controversial government spyware and hacking-tool makers in Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and Russia, and to a cybersecurity firm with potential ties to the Chinese government,

° From The Mac Observer: Apple chip supplier TSMC has plans in place to mass produce next-generation 3-nanometer chips at its $12 billion Arizona facility, according to the Taiwanese company’s founder,

° From 9to5Mac: A new report solidifies Apple’s spot as the maker of the fastest 5G devices in the US, UK, and more.

° From MacRumors: Apple’s Phil Schiller, responsible for Apple events and the App Store, has deactivated his Twitter account following recent developments on the platform.

° From AppleInsider: Apple continues to struggle with keeping up with high demand for iPhone 14 Pro models. With lead times increasing, investment analyst JP Morgan has lowered its stock price target.

° From WCVB: One person was killed, and sixteen other victims were transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals after an SUV crashed into the Apple store at the Hingham (MA) Derby Street Shops just before 11 a.m. on Monday.

° From Macworld: If you usually spend your post-meal time falling asleep to “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving,” you won’t find it on the usual broadcast or cable channels–it’s now exclusively on Apple TV+. However, from November 23 to 27, anyone with an Apple ID can watch the holiday classic.

° From Macworld Live!: In the November 2022 MacVoices Update, host Chuck Joiner outlines the publication schedule for MacVoices over the Thanksgiving Holiday and announces the next “About An Hour With” session, this time with Jeff Carlson, the author of “Take Control of Apple Watch.”
