New rumors about the iPhone 8 and the 10.5-inch iPad Pro

According to a new report from DigiTimes — TPK Holdings is charging between $18 and $22 for the technology for 3D Touch, so the 3D Touch tech in the upcoming “iPhone 8” will cost Apple more than the company anticipated.

Due to the additional bonding of glass covers, overall processing cost for OLED-based 3D Touch solution is about 50% higher than that for the LCD-based one but the quotes for the client is about 150% higher. The Sellers Research Firm (that’s me) thinks the report is on target, which means the high-end iPhone 8 — shown in a fanciful mock-up by iPhone 8look — will have a price tag of $1,000 or higher.

DigiTimes also reports that Apple is said to be boosting production of its upcoming 10.5-inch iPad Pro, which means it’s “increasingly possible” we’ll see it arrive sometime over the next couple of months.

The Sellers Research Firm says this rumor is also true. I expect the 10.5-inch iPro Pro to be unveiled on June 5 at Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference and go on sale in June or July.
