Monument Valley picks up top prize at 11th Mobile Gaming Awards

Until the awesome Alto’s Adventure appeared on the scene, the one game that attracted the attention of all of us here at Apple World Today was the beautiful puzzler Monument Valley (US$3.99). Featuring stunning artwork, Escher-like architecture, and mind-bending gameplay, the app pulls you into the world of Princess Ida and the crows for hours on end. We’re happy to announce that Monument Valley was awarded the “Grand Prix” prize for best Mobile Game of 2014 at the 11th International Mobile Gaming Awards held last night.

Monument Valley first appeared in the App Store on April 3, 2014 and was an immediate hit. On November 12, 2014, Forgotten Shores — a $1.99 in-app purchase for an expansion pack to the game — added eight more levels to the ten in the original game.

Monument Valley bested over 1,000 other games to reach the pinnacle of success. The Awards are held as part of the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, and are judged by an expert panel made up of tech and gaming journalists as well as game developers. Congratulations to the team at London-based Ustwo Studio Ltd. for winning the prize, and we look forward to seeing more from them in the future.
