March 25 event may be used to announce a subscription feature addition to Apple News

Apple will hold a media event in the Steve Jobs Theater at the Apple Park Campus on Monday, March 25, to unveil a new subscription news service according to BuzzFeed

The article said sources described the event as subscription services focused (in other words, adding a subscription service feature to Apple News), but didn’t say anything about Apple’s standalone video streaming service which is also rumored to debut in 2019. Some rumors have claimed that Apple would offer a magazine/news subscription service, a video streaming service, and Apple Music into one bundle. Earlier this year, The Information reported that Apple had told studios and networks to prepared for an April launch.

BuzzFeed says not to expect AirPods 2, the AirPower, or iPad updates at the March 25 event. However, another report claimed those products would be announced on March 22. Apple certainly isn’t planning two media events, so we’ll see which date is correct and what products/services are announced.

Speaking of Apple News, The Wall Street Journal claims Apple is having trouble negotiating financial terms with publishers for its planned subscription news service. The tech giant reportedly wants half of the subscription revenue from such a service, and publishers aren’t keen on that idea.
