Mac version of Blueshift transcribing app now available

Blueshift Development has launched an app for the Mac which, like its iPhone and iPad app, transcribes audio offline and on the device to help with privacy and cost. The app also features editing features to correct with the help of timestamps.

The Mac app transcribes entirely offline, using new features found in the latest software release from Apple in macOS 10.15.2.

The app allows recording from the app to get live transcription, or to import audio and video after the fact to get the transcript. Users can also edit the app with timestamps at every word, so that they can select text to jump to that point in the audio for an easier time refining or correcting the transcript.

Students, business professionals, interviewers and transcription professionals can use the app to get a head start on their project, says Matthew Waller, the developer behind Blueshift. And because the transcription happens on the user’s device, the app can offer unlimited minutes of transcription, instead of paying per minute or with an expensive subscription, he adds.

Additional features in Dictation include transcribing in 13 languages and dialects, bookmarking audio during recording and during editing the transcript, trimming the file, exporting audio, exporting text, dark mode, searching for a file based on text inside the transcript or title and multiple window support on iPad and Mac.

The app is available at a one-time cost of $14.99 on the Mac, and $6.99 on iOS.
