Mac sales are up year-over-year, while iPhone and iPad unit sales dip

Mac sales are up year-over-year, while iPhone sales are down in units but up in revenue for Apple’s fiscal 2017 second quarter that ended April 1, 2017.

Apple sold approximately 4.2 million Macs during the period. That’s up from just over four million in the second fiscal quarter of 2016.

The company sold about 50.1 million iPhones during the fiscal 2017 second quarter, compared to just over 51 million in the year-ago period. However, smartphone revenue rose 1% year-over-year.

iPad sales were down again. In the fiscal second quarter 2017, Apple sold approximately 8.9 million tablets compared to 10 million in fiscal quarter 2016.

A note of interest for those who think the iPad is replacing the Mac. For Apple’s most recent fiscal quarter, the latter brought in about $5.8 million in revenue compared to $3.9 million for the former. Of course, the iPhone dwarfs both of them in terms of revenue with $33 million for the fiscal 2017 second quarter.
