Jimmy Iovine: iTunes music download sales will ‘inevitably’ end at some point

Apple Music executive Jimmy Iovine told the BBC that streaming services are too similar – and need to diversify to survive. He added that Apple’s streaming service needs more original content.

Iovine also said that, though Apple has denied rumors it would “phase out” the iTunes download store next year, such a move is inevitable when people stop buying.

On a related note, The Wall Street Journal now claims that he will transition into a “consulting role” with Apple Music this August. The article says he plans to spend more time with his family. However, according to the WSJ, he’ll still support Apple Music and work with Apple senior vice president Eddy Cue “as needed.”
