Apple’s wildly anticipated iPhone X has received the approval of the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which clears the way for pre-orders to begin as scheduled on October 27 — just 23 days from now.
The iPhone X product pages still contain a footnote saying that FCC approval has not been obtained — “iPhone X has not been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. This device is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or leased, until authorization is obtained.” — but the notes should be removed shortly.
All devices that emit RF (radio frequency) signals must be approved by the FCC before they can be sold in the United States. This ensures that the devices do not cause harmful interference (particularly to radio services used for the public welfare), that they meet human RF exposure limits, and comply with other rules governing the use of radio devices.
