IKEA smart lights becoming HomeKit compatible? Shut up and take my money!

IKEA is one of those places that even people who hate to shop love to go to. The stores are mammoth, full of home decorating goodies you didn’t even know you needed until you got to there, and all at pretty reasonable prices. Earlier this year IKEA announced a collection of smart lights named (in the usual IKEA manner) TRÅDFRI. Now the company has announced that HomeKit support is on the way for those lights.

As translated from the Swedish press release:

IKEA smart lighting is a Plug & Play solution, which means that no new electrical wiring and no electrician are needed. All it takes is replacing a light source with a TRÅDFRI LED light source. With a remote control or TRÅDFRI app, homeowners can design their own lighting by dimming the light switch from warm to cool shades in three steps and make settings for different moods. Later this year, users will be able to connect their smart lighting with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant and install and adjust the lighting using the Apple Home app and make it work together with other accessories used together with HomeKit, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa – such as thermostats, door locks, sensors, ceiling fans, blinds and more.

I look forward to visiting my local IKEA when the TRÅDFRI lights become HomeKit-compatible. If the pricing is typical IKEA, every light in the house may be controllable from my iPhone.
