In a note to clients — as noted by MacRumors — Apple analyst says the first Macs to sport ARM-based processors will be a 13-inch MacBook Pro and 24-inch iMac. He adds that they’ll arrive in late 2020 or early 2021 at the earliest.
Per Kuo’s notes:
The new [MacBook Pro’s] form factor design will be similar to that of the existing Intel 13.3-inch MacBook Pro. Apple will discontinue the Intel 13.3-inch MacBook Pro production after launching the ARM 13.3-inch MacBook Pro
The ARM iMac will be equipped with the all-new form factor design and a 24- inch display. Apple will launch the refresh of existing Intel iMac in 3Q20 before launching the ARM iMac
The Sellers Research Group (that’s me) thinks Kuo is spot on when it comes to the designs of the Macs. However, I don’t think we’ll see the first ARM-based Mac laptops or desktops until spring of next year.
However, I do expect Apple to announce its plans to transition the Mac from Intel processors to ARM processors at this week’s Worldwide Developer Conference.
