How to unlock an iPhone without a passcode or Face ID

So you can’t unlock your iPhone X/11/12 because you forgot your passcode and your Face ID doesn’t work or you didn’t set up a face ID at all?

Please keep calm. Your iPhone will not forever be locked. There are some tricks that allow you to regain access to your iPhone in just a few minutes. This post will show you how to unlock iPhone X/11/12 without passcode and face ID.

Option 1: Unlock iPhone without passcode or Face ID using iCloud

Does your iPhone have Find My iPhone enabled? If yes, your iCloud account will be your best choice to unlock your iPhone X/11/12 without a passcode and face ID. Follow these steps.

Step 1: Sign in to iCloud.com in any browser on your computer or any accessible device.

Open any browser on your computer, go to iCloud.com, and then sign in with your Apple ID. The Apple ID should be the same as the one you signed in to on your iPhone.

If your Apple ID has two-factor authentication enabled, a message with a verification code will be send to your iPhone and you have to enter the code before you can sign in.

Since you are currently unable to unlock your iPhone to view the verification code, click “Didn’t get a verification code” and then click the “Text Me” option. A text message with the verification code will be sent to your iPhone.

You can now check the received verification code on your iPhone screen without unlocking. Then, enter the code on your computer screen, and you can successfully sign in to iCloud.

Step 2: After you’re signed in to iCloud.com, click the Find iPhone icon, and you will need to enter your Apple ID password again to access iCloud Find My iPhone

Step 3: On the iCloud Find My iPhone page, select the iPhone you need to unlock. When the action prompt appears, click Erase iPhone. This will erase all content and settings in the iPhone, including the passcode and face ID.

Step 4: When the erase is complete, your iPhone is unlocked and you can access it without any passcode or face ID. Of course, your iPhone is now like a brand-new device, and you have to re-set it up, set a new passcode and face ID.

If your iPhone doesn’t have Find My enabled at all, or you can’t sign in to your iCloud Apple ID on any other device, move on to the next method.

Option 2: Unlock iPhone without passcode or face ID using iTunes

The second method Apple offers to unlock an iPhone without knowing the passcode or face ID is to put the iPhone into recovery mode and restore it using iTunes.

Step 1: Connect the iPhone to your PC via an Apple USB cable. If iTunes automatically opens, close it.

Step 2: Press and quickly release the volume up button. Press and quickly release the volume down button. Then, press and hold the Power button until your iPhone gets into the recovery mode screen.

Step 3: Open iTunes on your computer. iTunes will immediately recognize the connected iPhone and pop up a dialog box that allows you to choose to update or restore the iPhone. Select Restore followed by Restore and Update.

Step 4: Agree to the software license terms on the screen, and iTunes will automatically restore your iPhone to its factory settings.

Step 5: Keep the iPhone connected and wait several minutes until the restore is complete or you receive the message “Success, your iPhone has been unlocked”.

As you can see, all the methods listed above require the use of a computer. So, is there a way to unlock iPhone X/11/12 without passcode and Face ID without using a computer? Yes, there is, but only if you have a second iOS device that shares the same iCloud account (Apple ID) with your currently locked iPhone.

Step 1: Go to another iOS device that shares the same Apple ID with your currently locked iPhone, and then open the Find My app on that iOS device.

Step 2: In the Find My app, select Devices at the bottom. All devices linked to your Apple ID will be displayed here, including your locked iPhone you hope to unlock without a passcode and face ID. Tap the locked iPhone.

Step 3: Tap Erase This Device at the bottom of the screen. This will erase all content and settings in your iPhone, including the passcode and face ID, and unlock your iPhone.
