Apple Maps is the most used mapping platform on Apple devices. Being the native iOS mapping app, many choose it over other apps as Apple Maps syncs with other apps to provide a seamless user experience.

You can do many things on Apple Maps, from saving places to go and visit to dropping pins on important locations. One common feature of Apple Maps is saving your home address. Using this, you can conveniently send your address to friends, or quickly find your way home regardless of your starting point.

These make saving your home address to Apple Maps such a convenience for Apple users. However, when you move to a new place or simply want to remove your address from Apple Maps, it isn’t as straightforward as adding it.

Our article will teach you how to remove a home address from Apple Maps. Continue reading to learn how to do this – plus, we’ll explain removing a public location from Apple Maps for those curious.

Removing Home Address From Apple Maps – Step-by-Step

There are two ways you can remove your home address from Apple Maps. Both work equally well and take only a few minutes.

The first way is to:

  1. Open Apple Maps
  2. Under Favorites, tap ‘More’
  3. Tap the info button next to Home
  4. Tap ‘Remove Favorite’

The second way to remove a home address from Apple Maps applies to all iOS devices, including old iPhones and iPads. If you’re using an old device, the first method won’t work as it’s for iOS 14 and up.

Here’s the second way to remove your home address from Apple Maps.

  1. Go to the Contacts app
  2. Tap on your Apple ID at the top
  3. Tap ‘Edit’ in the top right corner
  4. Scroll down to ‘Address’
  5. Tap the red icon to the left of home address
  6. Select ‘Delete’

Doing this will delete your home address from your Apple ID and apps that use this data. However, you may need to close apps and launch them again to sync everything fully.

A Quick Note: If the home address removed from the Contacts app still appears on Apple Maps, a hard reset will solve your issue. You can simply force-restart your iPhone by:

  1. Press and release the volume up button.
  2. Press and release the volume down button.
  3. Press and hold the lock button until the Apple logo appears.

If your iPhone is an old one – say an iPhone 7 – try holding the volume down button and the lock button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears to force-restart.

How to Remove a Public Location From Apple Maps

You can’t remove a public location on Apple Maps the way you delete your home address right away. If there’s a public location you want to delete from Apple Maps, such as your home address displayed as a business location, you must file a request with Apple to delete it.

To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Open Apple Maps
  2. Tap the location you want to delete
  3. Tap ‘Report an Issue’
  4. From the list, select why you want the location to be removed
  5. Add in the details if needed
  6. Tap ‘Send’ from the top right corner

After this, it may take a few days for Apple to remove the address from Apple Maps. Check your mail to get updates, as Apple will share the details about the process.

Keep Your Address Safe

Whether you moved to a new house or want to remove your home address from Apple Maps for privacy reasons, the above will help you do it in a few minutes.

While removing an address from the Contacts app or Apple Maps is straightforward, you’ll need to wait for Apple’s response to remove a public address. Following the above steps for removing a public address is the only option if someone listed your home address as a business place without you knowing.

As you remove your home address from Apple Maps, finding a strange address might mean your Apple ID has been compromised. Make sure to change your password and update your details. You can also utilize a free reverse lookup tool like Information.com’s to find out more about the address appearing on your device.
