HomeKit compatibility coming to MyQ users

Chamberlain and LiftMaster, which specialize in garage door openers and home access, announce Apple HomeKit compatibility for current owners of MyQ-enabled devices. HomeKit is a framework that allows control of compatible home automation devices through iOS and Siri.

The new MyQ Home Bridge retrofit device allows garage door openers with MyQ technology, and MyQ-enabled accessories, to benefit from new levels of convenience and control available through the HomeKit network. With MyQ Home Bridge hardware and access to the HomeKit platform, users can open, close, or check the status of their garage doors, and turn MyQ-connected lights on or off using the Home app via their iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch, or using Siri.

MyQ users can also create scenes which enable multiple HomeKit devices to work in combination with a single command. For example, users can create a scene named “I’m home” that turns MyQ-enabled lights on, raises the thermostat, unlocks the door, and opens the garage door opener via their MyQ Home Bridge.

MyQ Home Bridge is available now on Chamberlain.com for an introductory price of $49.99. It will be available in September on LiftMaster.com for $69.99.
