Here’s what I’d love to see in the updates of the MacBook Pro

The 16-inch MacBook Pro has replaced the iMac as my Mac of choice. And I’m hoping that the gets even better with its next upgrades.

There will, of course, be faster processors inside when the 2024 update arrives. But I want even more. I’d love to see a MacBook Pro with an OLED display; however, that’s no likely to happen until 2027, according to the rumor mill. 

Well, how about Face ID then? Apple’s facial recognition software is long overdue for inclusion on a Mac. A laptop seems like the most obvious Mac for first adding the feature. Apple has filed for and/or been granted various patents such as number US 20240037984 A1 that hint at Face ID on the Mac. Perhaps we’ll see it soon. 

What’s more, I’ve long wanted a Mac with cellar capabilities. Various iPad models have this option, so why can’t we have Mac laptops with built-in 5G? 

Finally, some folks want a Mac laptop with a touch screen. I don’t see it happening anytime soon — and I’d rather have the aforementioned features first — but a January 11 2023 Bloomberg report said Apple was planning such a device for 2025.

The MacBook Pro revamp being tested inside Apple purportedly keeps a “traditional laptop design” that also includes a standard trackpad and keyboard. However, the display would “support touch input and gestures – just like an iPhone and iPad.”

I wouldn’t bet serious money on a touch screen MacBook Pro (or any of the other features I’ve mentioned). But a fella can dream, can’t he? And some, if not all, the things on my wish list will almost certainly come in time. It’s just a matter of when.
