Griffin’s working on a MagSafe replacement for 2016 MacBook Pros

Apple’s lauded MagSafe connector on past Mac laptops disengaged with the slightest amount of pressure. This saved many a MacBook Air and MacBook Pro from a disastrous plummet when someone accidentally snagged the power cable. However, Apple abandoned the tech on recent laptops, going all in for USB-C ports and no others.

Coming from Griffin is an updated BreakSafe Magnetic USB-C Breakaway Cable for the 2016 MacBook Pro, as well as a new USB-A adapter, a car charger, and a wall charger that all use the BreakSafe magnetic connectors. It’s the first product that may be of primary interest to owners of new Mac laptops.

The Hi-Power Magnetic USB-C Breakaway Cable adds the magnetic connector to other devices with USB-A and power/data at speeds up to 480 Mbps. It’s due in the second quarter of the year for US$19.
