From Android to iOS – Why Switch?

The reason for the switch from Android to iOS is an odd reason. It’s all because of my 15 year old son!

I’ve been using the Google Pixel XL for a while now and I’ve had no issues with it, but when Google announced the Pixel 2 back in October, I almost pulled the trigger on the upgrade. I decided that I really didn’t need a new phone and that I would be wasting money upgrading. I resisted and moved on.

That same week, my son cracked the glass on his Samsung Galaxy, again. I loaned him my old Nextbit Robin until we figured out what we were going to do. Fixing his Samsung phone wasn’t really going to be worth it on an older phone, so we decided that we’d get him something new for Christmas. My son, Brett, decided to let us know that he didn’t want another Android device. He wanted an iPhone. I tried talking him out of it for a couple weeks. He wasn’t budging. He’s getting older and more independent and my wife, an iPhone 4 user, said, “just get him what he wants already”.

He said he’d be happy with an iPhone 6 or 7. He just wanted an iPhone.

I started researching prices and looking for deals. I called up a friend who happens to be a public relations guy at AT&T and asked him if AT&T had any good deals on the horizon for iPhones and he told me about a deal where you could get an iPhone 8 64GB model for free with the purchase of the iPhone X. I told my wife about this deal and she reminded me that she didn’t want to upgrade from her iPhone 4. She rarely uses a phone and said a nice phone like that would be a waste of money on her. The deal sounded to good to pass up though. She laughed, knowing that I have been an iPhone hater all these years, and suggested that I get the iPhone X and give my son the iPhone 8. She was kidding, but I said, “Why not”?

Although I was content with the Pixel XL from last year, I figured it couldn’t hurt getting something new and refreshing. The iPhone X is probably the most innovative phone that they’ve release since the original iPhone. I decide to go ahead and give it a try. I could resell it if I don’t like it anyway.

So. There we have it, my son wanted an iPhone and that’s why I got the iPhone X.
