Former HBO chief signs five-year deal to produce content for Apple TV+

This could result in some interesting new content on Apple TV+: in a new five-year deal, Richard Plepler’s new company, Eden Productions, will make television series, documentaries and feature films exclusively for Apple’s $4.99/month streaming service, reports The New York Times

He’s the former chief exec of HBO, where he spent 27 years. The Times says Plepler will make television series, documentaries and feature films exclusively for Apple TV+. In his years at HBO, the network won more than 160 Emmys, including ones for series like “Game of Thrones,” “Big Little Lies” and “Veep.”

Plepler said that he had conversations with several people about his next step, but that his only “serious” talks were with Apple.

“I thought that Apple was the right idea very quickly, just because it was embryonic enough that I thought maybe, you know, I could make a little contribution there,” he told The Times.
