Epson announces a pair of new EcoTank cartridgeless printers

You know how every time you need to print something important, your printer gives you that “out of ink” message? That was the impetus behind Epson’s EcoTank printers, which use large refillable tanks on the printer instead of those obnoxious and pricy cartridges. The company today announced two new additions to the Supertank category of EcoTank printers, the WorkForce ET-16500 wide-format printer and the Expression ET-3600.

Each of these printers comes out of the box ready to print for up to two years without a refill. The WorkForce ET-16500 ($999.99) is the first wide-format printer in the Supertank category, and out of the box can print up to 10,500 black and 11,000 color pages up to 13″ x 19″ in size. It also has a scanner for copying pages up to 11″ x 17″ in size, and has a 500-sheet capacity and rear specialty-paper feed.

For home and small office use, the Expression ET-3600 EcoTank All-in-One Supertank Printer ($399.99) will print up to 11,000 black and 8,500 color pages out of the box, with print speeds of up to 13.7 pages per minute in black and 7.3 pages per minute in color. It has a 150-sheet paper bin, can print double-sided, and offers wireless printing from smartphones and tablets.

Both of the printers come with wireless and Wi-Fi Direct capabilities, and use a new printing system to deliver laser-quality printing. Once it’s time to replace the ink, low-cost replacement bottles are available for refilling the tanks at a savings of up to 80 percent over traditional print cartridges.

We hope to have one of the Expression ET-3600 printers in our labs for review soon. Both will be in stores in mid-September 2016.
