eMarketer looks at Apple’s iPhone/iPad market share, revenue, sales

We’ll be covering Apple’s earnings this afternoon. Meanwhile, here’s some relevant data from eMarketer on Apple’s U.S. and UK market share for the iPhone and iPad as well as revenue and sales.

UK iPhone and iPad market share

In the UK, the iPhone is expected to account for a 41.4% share of smartphone users this year, an increase of just over 1% from 2017.  eMarketer estimates Android will account for 54.1% of UK smartphone users this year.

eMarketer expects there to be 18.4 million iPad users in the UK in 2018, representing 27.5% of the population. That figure also represents 50.4% of UK tablet users, – and penetration is expected to remain flat in the coming years.

This year, eMarketer estimates, 36.5 million people in the UK will use a tablet at least once per month, up from 35.6 million users last year. By 2021 this figure is forecasted to rise to 38.1 million.

U.S. iPhone and iPad market share

With 97.2 million iPhone users in the US, Apple’s share of the smartphone market will amount to 44.2%.  Android, by comparison, will have 117 million users this year, accounting for 53.2% of US smartphone usage in 2017.  eMarketer expects Android to dominate smartphone usage through 2020.

In 2018, eMarketer estimates that 52.6% of Americans will use a tablet once a month, totaling 173 million people.

Although the number of iPad users continues to increase, eMarketer expects Apple’s share of the tablet market to steadily decline through 2021.  In 2017, Apple’s share of the tablet market will be 45.7% down from 46.7% last year.

U.S. connected TV users

Apple TV is at the bottom of the US connected TV market, behind Google Chromecast and Roku. This year, 12.5% of connected TV users will subscribe to Apple TV, compared with 24.5% for Chromecast and 25.3% for Roku.
