Elgato introduces the Eve HomeKit compatible wall switch

Elgato has launched the $49.95 Eve Light Switch, which the company says is the world’s first light switch with HomeKit technology for light control. It transforms any single or multi-bulb setup into a Siri-enabled lighting system, so you can use your voice to control your existing bulbs regardless of their shape, size or color.

Eve Light Switch replaces a single pole switch and features Bluetooth low energy technology to ensure easy setup, reliable operation, and power efficiency, according to Elgate General Manager Markus Fest. It’s one of eight products in the company’s Eve line of HomeKit-enabled accessories.

The Eve Light Switch features a capacitive touch sensor to manually turn a light on or off. It replaces a single pole switch and is ready for DIY or professional installation. Thanks to Bluetooth low energy technology, Eve Light Switch doesn’t require a gateway or bridge, and is totally immune to cyber attacks over the Internet, Fest says.

To control Eve Light Switch when you are away from home, all you need is an Apple TV 4 that is set up as a Home Hub. To control brightness and color, combine Eve Light Switch with a HomeKit-enabled Philips Hue setup.

With Eve, see your home at a glance right on your iPhone and iPad. The Eve family of HomeKit accessories gathers data on air quality, temperature, humidity, air pressure, energy consumption and more. The Eve Light Switch is now available on Elgato.com and on Amazon.com. Go here to view a full installation video of Eve Light Switch.

Apple’s HomeKit is a framework that allows control of compatible home automation devices through iOS and Siri.
