‘Defending Jacob’ setting Apple TV+ records

Defending Jacob is believed to be setting Apple TV+ records for viewer engagement, according to Deadline. The vast majority of viewers who sampled the show during its premiere weekend watched all three available episodes, and nearly all who watched those also completed the fourth episode released May 1, the article adds. 

According to Deadline sources, Defending Jacob ranks among the top three series premieres for Apple TV+, logging a big opening weekend with viewership continuing to build in Week 2 and the audience growing by five times in its first 10 days (April 24-May 3) to rank among the two fastest-growing series premieres for Apple TV+. 

Actor Chris Evans — best known as “Captain America” in the Marvel movies —is the biggest name actor in the series. It also stars Michelle Dockery, Jaeden Martell, Cherry Jones, Pablo Schreiber, Betty Gabriel and Sakina Jaffrey. 

he series is based on the 2012 best-selling novel of the same name by William Landay. It tells the story of a father whose 14-year-old son is accused of murder. The series was created, written, and executive produced by Mark Bomback, who will also serve as showrunner. It will be produced by Paramount Television and Anonymous Content, with Rosalie Swedlin and Adam Shulman executive producing for Anonymous Content. Academy Award-nominee Morten Tyldum will executive produce and direct the series.
