Chad Feehan departs as show runner of upcoming Apple TV+ sci-fi show

Chad Feehan has departed Apple’s upcoming sci-fi drama series from Simon Kinberg and David Weil after a stint as showrunner, reports Deadline.

In January, Apple gave a green light to a 10-episode season of an untitled science fiction series created and co-written by Simon Kinberg (pictured) and David Weil. It was sometimes referred to as War of the Worlds project because an early incarnation of the project’s parallels to HG Wells’ classic. It will be part of the Apple TV+ line-up.

Feehan, whose past credits include Banshee and Ray Donovan, was hired as executive producer/showrunner to generate scripts, overseeing a small writers room comprised by part-time writers. However, his high-profile spy thriller feature, 355, starring Jessica Chestain, was cleared for production and he headed overseas to direct the film from a script he had co-written, according to Deadline.

Kinberg is best known for his work on the X-Men film franchise, and has also written such films as Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Sherlock Holmes. He has served as a producer on others including Cinderella and The Martian, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. Weil is a producer and actor, known for Moonfall, Half Heard in the Stillness, and The Hunt. Genre Films’ president of TV Audrey Chon will be an executive producer on the show, along with Kinberg and Weil.

Apple TV+ will arrive Nov. 1. The cost will be $4.99/month — or free for one year with the purchase of a new Mac, iPhone, or iPad.
