BookArc for MacBook Pros is a useful accessory (if you don’t use the Touch Bar)

Twelve South’s BookArc allows you to run your setup from the power of your Mac laptop while in closed clamshell mode. It’s a great product — as long as you don’t wish to use the Touch Bar.

To use you slide your laptop into the silicone slot, connect it to an external display, add a full-size keyboard and mouse to create a de facto desktop setup. Unplug the Mac laptop, and BookArc’s newly designed cable-catch feature keeps your cables from falling to the floor.

If you don’t mind a lack of access to the Touch Bar (though I do mind), the $49.99 BookArc for MacBook Pros works well. It holds the laptop vertically vertically, freeing up desk space. Twelve South’s stand also matches Apple’s aesthetics. The BookArc is made from bead-blasted aluminum with a polished chamfered edge that pays homage to the mirrored Apple logo.
