BodyGuardz Trainr Pro iPhone case perfect for your athletic endeavors

BodyGuardz recently announced the new $49.95 Trainr Pro, a new tough case with removable armband that works with all iPhone 6/6s/7 standard and Plus models. Whether you run, walk, cycle or work out at the gym, the Trainr Pro provides a great way to protect your iPhone while working out.

Design

The Trainr Pro has three layers of protection for your phone; a transparent back to protect your device while letting you show off the fact that you own an Apple product, a sport-grip elastomer on the outside of the case that makes it easy to hold, and a shock-absorbing composite called Unequal that protects your iPhone from shocks.

Add to that the removable armband – it’s made from a soft, breathable material, and clips onto the Trainr Pro case in seconds. It’s easy to connect and disconnect, with none of the hassles that I’ve seen with other sport armband cases. You can easily use the case for regular carry during the day, put the strap on for your workout, then take it back off for the rest of the day. A Velcro™ strip adjusts the armband for a comfortable fit.

The Trainr Pro comes in two colors: one that’s light gray with mint green inserts and a clear back, and one that is black with gray inserts and a tinted back. With all the protection offered, the Trainr Pro isn’t that heavy — just 1.6 ounces (45.4 grams).

Function

The BodyGuardz cases are usually better built than most run-of-the-mill iPhone cases that sometimes cost more, and the Trainr Pro is no exception. Examining the case close up, you can find none of the irregular edges or other imperfections that show up on many other cases.

I didn’t test the drop rating; the manufacturer says that your phone can survive a 10 foot drop with the Trainr Pro protecting it.

I did feel that the band was a bit tight on my bicep, and I’m not exactly a “buff” guy. However, the band is made of a stretchable material and gives a bit. I suppose those with big biceps could wear it on the lower arm with no problem.

The armband clip mechanism is brilliantly simple. It’s very easy to clip the case into the armband with one hand, and it definitely stays in the clip. It stays so well that I found removing the case from the armband to be a bit more of a struggle. However, I’d rather have that situation than have my iPhone fly off my arm when I’m in the midst of running.

One other nice feature on the band is that it has sporty stripes that are made of a reflective material so you’ll be seen by drivers if you’re out at night.

Conclusion

I really liked the design and execution of this iPhone sport case, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone who wants a protective case they can use all day and then snap into an armband for workouts. If you do have big biceps, you might find the BodyGuardz Trainr Pro to be a bit of a tight fit, but the company does offer a 30-day money back guarantee if you’re not happy with it.
