Filmmaker Martin Scorsese inks first-look deal with Apple

Apple has inked a first-look deal with its director, Martin Scorsese, according to Deadline. The acclaimed filmmaker (Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, The Irishman, Casino, and more) will base his Sikelia Productions banner at the tech giant in a multi-year deal for film and television projects Scorsese will produce and direct for Apple TV+, Apple’s streaming service.

Apple and Scorsese are already teaming up on the upcoming feature Killers of the Flower Moon, directed by Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.

Sikelia Productions was established by the Oscar-winning Scorsese in 2003. As noted by Deadline, Apple adds Sikelia to first look deals made with Appian Way’s DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson for TV and feature documentaries; Idris Elba’s Green Door Pictures; Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions; A24 and Imagine Documentaries; and kid programming factories Sesame Workshop and Peanuts.

Apple TV+ is available on the Apple TV app on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, iPod touch, Mac, select Samsung and LG smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV and Roku devices, as well as at tv.apple.com, for US$4.99 per month with a seven-day free trial.
