In the third quarter of 2020, Apple remained the market leader in the smartwatch industry, increasing its share by 2 percentage points compared to the previous year., according to a new report from Counterpoint Research.
The tech giant launched its first mid-tier smartwatch, the Apple Watch SE, during the quarter. Priced at less than US$300, it received a lot of attention from the market, notes Counterpoint Research.
“In terms of sales, Apple’s position is even stronger,” says Sujeong Lim, senior analyst. “In the third quarter, it achieved $2.3 billion, nearly half of global smartwatch shipments and an 18% increase over the same period last year.”
Counterpoint Research says that shipments increased 6% in quarter three of 2020 compared to the same period last year. The top five brands (Apple, Huawei, Samsung, BBK, and Fitbit) contributed more than 66% of the total shipments. And China surpassed North America to become the market leader after seven quarters.
