<p>It’s Wearables Wednesday here at Apple World Today, the day when I talk about the latest in the wearable technology — regardless of whether or not it’s from Apple. Wearables are an emerging market, so we’ll look at both what comes out from Apple, what works with our Apple devices, and even keep an eye on the competition.</p>

<p><a href="https://flexibits.com/fantastical">Fantastical 2 for Mac</a> (currently 10 dollars off at $39.99) is now available and it embraces OS X Yosemite with a nice, warm hug. The software, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/17/fantastical-improves-the-mac-desktop-calendar-experience/">which I first reviewed way back in 2011</a>, has grown quite a bit in the last four years. Fantastical 2 includes a full calendar window, a detachable menu bar calendar, a Today widget for Notification Center and so much more. Fantastical has received steady attention and development, and it shows. Here's my look at this great calendar app for Mac.</p>

<p>Every year since 1998, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society have hosted the <a href="http://gbbc.birdcount.org/about/">Great Backyard Bird Count</a>. The four-day event encourages bird watchers around the world to count and identify the birds they see. The crowd-sourced data is compiled and used to examine the distribution and abundance of birds worldwide. We recently set up a bird feeder in our yard and decided to participate in the annual event this year as part of our homeschool activities. </p>

My interest in buying the watch does include its usefulness as a  smartwatch and fitness tracker, but there are three other reasons that compel me to buy the device on day one. </p>

<p style="margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px">In the beginning, there was <a target="_blank" href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/instagram/id389801252?mt=8" rel="noopener noreferrer">Instagram</a>, and it was good. People took many square pictures of their food or friends, applied filters to them, and shared them with the world.</p><p>Instagram begat <a target="_blank" href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hyperlapse-from-instagram/id740146917?mt=8" rel="noopener noreferrer">Hyperlapse</a>, and it was also good. Humanity found a new way to shoot image-stabilized time-lapse videos, then share them with friends, relatives, and complete strangers.</p><p>And yea, verily, today Instagram also begat <a target="_blank" href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/layout-from-instagram/id967351793?mt=8" rel="noopener noreferrer">Layout</a> (free), an iPhone app for making photo collages and send them out to the multitude. And it too is good.</p>
