AWT News Update: April 15, 2015

<p style="margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px">It's that time of year, Apple developers. <a href="https://developer.apple.com/wwdc/">The company has announced that WWDC 2015 will take place from June 8-12 in San Francisco</a>. Apple notes that the event will feature over 100 sessions, and scholarships will be available to students and members of participating STEM programs. </p><p style="margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px">Developers who want tickets may send two tributes from their districts to compete in an outdoor arena. Once a tribute has been announced, another eligible person of the same gender may volunteer in their stead, though this is very unusual. </p>

AWT Health Club: Withings Blood Pressure Monitor

Tick talk: Developers chat about creating and testing an Apple Watch app for time tracking

<p>When the Apple Watch arrives on the wrists of a few users on April 24, there will be a lot of apps available. Apple CEO Tim Cook already noted in an email to employees that “over a thousand” apps have been submitted, and Apple World Today has heard from a number of developers who are working on Watch apps. [Molehill] created one such app for its flagship [Tick] time tracking service that should be on the Apple Watch App Store on launch day, and I had a chance to ask the product team a few questions.</p>

How to mirror your iPad or iPhone to an Amazon Fire TV

<p><span>I've long since abandoned the Apple TV for a Roku 3 and, more recently, the </span><a target="_blank" href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00CX5P8FC/appwortod-20/ref=nosim" rel="noopener noreferrer">Amazon Fire TV</a><span>. Though I am overall happy with the switch, one feature I miss from the Apple TV is AirPlay, AirPlay allows you stream content as well as mirror an iOS device or Mac to an HDTV. Though Roku does not support iOS for mirroring, there is solution for the Fire TV thanks for the folks at Squirrels, who created a version of Reflector for the Fire TV, </span></p>

<p><span>Earlier this week, Apple </span><a href="https://appleworld.dreamhosters.com/blog/2015/4/8/mac-os-x-yosemite-10103-now-available">released</a><span> the new Photos app for OS X along with OS X 10.10.3. </span><span>Announced last year, Photos is replacing</span><span> Aperture and iPhoto in Apple’s desktop software lineup. The app combines some of the organization abilities of Aperture</span><span> with the</span><span> basic image editing tools borrowed from iOS. </span><span>I</span><span>n today’s 60-second tip, we will show you how to edit an image and apply a filter in Apple’s new Photos app.</span></p>
